On a recent trip to Cherokee, NC we saw some Elk come in to a field just outside of town.  This was a treat since we had never seen Elk in the wild anywhere in the southeast in my lifetime.  There was several elk that came into the field to feed  at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. The Gennett Poplar is a Natural Treasure in the Ellijay Mountains The Gennett Poplar is the largest tree I have seen in the Chattahoochee National Forest in the North Georgia Mountains, on the outer edges of Ellijay, GA.
